The average American consumes 70 pounds of textiles a year. More than 85 percent of this is discarded with the trash. This means that for each of its inhabitants, the average city hauls 60 pounds of recyclable textiles to the landfill. A city with a population of 50,000 annually pays for the handling and disposal of 3,000 tons of textiles.
The poster is a good example of what to do with used clothing. At our mission we recycle the really good clothing to third world countries. Each garment is hand sorted and placed in laundry bins before it is hand rolled and put into boxes.
This year the US Government allocated 10 containers of clothing and relief items to be sent to Tajikistan under the guidelines of Project Provide Hope. So far only three have been sent and all of them by Equipping the Saints ministry.
We just finished filling the last of the 1 thousand boxes needed to fill a shipping container tonight. We are hoping to be able to get our fourth container out this weekend.
So far over 120 thousand pounds of "pre-loved, experienced clothing" has been processed by our volunteers and staff. Truly this is Share-Wear!
