October 2007

Dear Friends and Family,

It’s fall here in the Shenandoah Valley which means cooler weather, changing leaves on the trees and filling shipping containers! (We just closed the doors on a container bound for Ethiopia.) It was one of our hardest containers to date as we were not able to use our dock to load but we ended up having to load the container from our mini storage unit. Our volunteers walked up to the truck and handed the boxes, library shelving, computers and monitors up over their head to the men in the container. Charlie’s back really began to hurt once he heard that the total weight of the container was a whopping 44,100 pounds! The majority of the load was library shelving (lots of end pieces , shelves and hardware) for the Meserete Kristus Bible College

No rest for the weary though, as we will be sending out another container this weekend for the Evangelical University of Bolivia. The majority of the container will be computers and monitors (which are very hard to stack). Please pray that we will be able to get the help we need and that no injuries will occur. We are looking
forward to being able to wheel items into the container from our loading dock.

We are also looking forward to seeing some couples from Virginia Beach who give up one of their vacation golfing days to work here at ETS. We appreciate their enthusiasm and continuing interest as this will be their third trip here.

October 18-21 is a return trip of another of our favorite groups from Savannah Christian Church. The group is called “Second Story” and “the kids” (about the ages of our own grown children) are full of energy and eager to take on any project. They helped paint our hallways last visit.

I was hoping to finished with physical therapy but I still have a definite limp. I was told that if I stop now I will always limp and that it will affect my other knee and eventually my back. So I am doing my exercises at home and check in with my therapist once a week.
Thanks for you prayers and support,

Charlie and Kathy
