Guess Who?

April 2008

Dear Friends and Family,

I recently read an article about familiar household products that are smaller in quantity but are selling at the same price as the larger packaging. The companies replied that the product is new and improved and is now in new packaging . It got me thinking about creative labeling. We recently experienced creative labeling while helping equip a missionary who was visiting us from a South American country.

This missionary was intrigued with some of the medical equipment that we have but he knew that the government would not permit importing medical equipment so he took 240 feather trimmers (surgical scissors) 10 flea egg removers ( tissue forceps) and 10 fish hook removers (hemostats). This particular missionary works with indigenous tribal people in the Amazon basin that dress primarily in feathers. Did he lie? No, not really, as this is the purpose these instruments will serve when they arrive in his country.

Just as these surgical instruments serve a unique function, so Equipping the Saints serves a unique purpose in the body of Christ. ETS exists to equip missionaries with needed supplies, materials and information. Please pray that we will be wise in purchasing items from school and on-line auctions and that we will be able to find ministries that need these items.

We were thrilled to have 7 people from Savannah Christian Church come to help us March 12– 19th. They did everything from sorting and boxing medical equipment, used clothing, inventorying kitchen supplies, sports equipment, and repairing spotlights to going through computer programs.

It was really hard for us to let them go back to Savannah. Not only were they hard workers but they also “lifted our spirits”. It’s easy to get discouraged when you see the same thing day after day but thrilling to see the ordinary from the eyes of others who have been here before and who can see a big improvement. Their enthusiasm was contagious and made us dig deeper to complete several tasks.

With the help of this group we were able to palletize 500 boxes of clothing and send them to Virginia Beach for Operation Blessing. This clothing was air lifted into Chile through the Denton Amendment (using space available on military transports) and will go to an orphanage there.

On a personal note we are pleased and excited to announce that our nest is going to be a little more crowded starting in September. Suzy and Tim are expecting their first child around September 22nd (player yet to be announced!) We are so excited that Emma will have a cousin to play with when she comes to visit her Auntie Suzy and Uncle Tim.

We are making plans to be in Savannah May 16 through the 23rd and would love to see as many of you as possible. If you would like us to visit your home group or you personally, please contact us or Savannah Christian Missions’ Office.

We are finally recovered from bouts with the flu. God’s timing was perfect in that we were sick during a time that we did not have other groups coming . It also reminded us to praise God for the health He gives us on a daily basis. We had plenty of time to thank the Lord for each of you and the blessing you are to us.

Thank you for your prayers and support. We look forward to seeing many of you in May.
Blessings,

Charlie and Kathy
