August 2008

Dear Friends and Family,

We had a wonderful fun and romantic weekend in Philadelphia. We celebrated 35 years of marriage by walking the historic streets, going to Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Constitution Center, Franklin Science Museum, the Aquarium, Penn’s Landing, the Independence Sea Museum, and touring the city atop a double decker bus. There were plenty of things we didn’t have time to do, so we may have to plan another trip some time in the future. The picture above was taken at “Love Park” in downtown Philly.

We call our little house in in the country “The Nest” so it was only fitting for Charlie to give me a hen and chicks weather vane for Mother’s Day. We have a tin roof that heats up quickly in the summer time heat, so getting it installed was not easy. Charlie does not like heights and especially our roof,so installing it was definitely an act of love and a special part of the gift. Be sure and check out our weather vane when you come to visit our nest.

We are expecting a large group of volunteers coming from Florida August 7 through the 10th. Please pray for their safety as they travel, and for us as we line up projects. We have several containers that we are working on and always have on-going maintenance projects .

Charlie has been spending a lot of his time fixing up copiers and teaching others how to troubleshoot and repair their own copiers. He says it rather like making a “a silk purse, out of a sow’s ear”. I am constantly amazed at his ability to improvise and make parts out of paper clips, rubber bands or Bic pens. I always laugh when he tries to tell me how he repaired something and have to remind him that “I don’t have a hook in my head to hang all that information.”

Thank you for your on-going love and support and most of all your prayers.

Blessings,
Charlie and Kathy
